Neil Barr

Falkirk Wheel

I’ve only been photographing properly since October this year.

After having to sell my web design business because of stress in the summer, I was looking for
something to do whilst I recovered and photography is always something I’ve wanted to have a “try” at. So, it genuinely means an absolute huge amount to me.

I remember sitting for ages that night. As it got dark, no lights came on. So I sat and sat and sat (with as always, my dog by my side), thinking this just isn’t going to happen. I was worried about getting cut off from my car (a sign on the bridge over the canal said it would be closed at 8pm).

Eventually a security guard came out to do his rounds. Maybe it was coincidence or maybe he took pity on me but as soon as he returned to his office the night lights came on. It was then a rush to take what I needed but because it was so cold, still and damp, my preferred lens (Canon 10-18mm) began fogging up. So I had to switch to another lens (Canon 18-135mm) before rattling off a few snaps before running back to the car.
