Duncan Fawkes

Across Assynt

This photograph was my reward after
climbing to the summit of Stac Pollaidh.
The forecast for heavy showers blown
in by strong winds and so my plan for
dramatic light looking north from my
mountain viewpoint really paid off. My
tripod had broken the previous day, so
this was made handheld bracing myself
against a rock whilst sheltering from the
fierce wind. Use of the polariser was
essential to bring out the vibrancy of
the rainbow.

Autumn Snow:

Winter’s early arrival brought this
wonderful combination of snow on
the mountaintops and autumn colour
on the trees. The longer focal length of
70mm was used to make the distant
mountains larger, appearing closer to
the trees. The early morning light was
a soft, pastel affair and was the perfect
compliment for this serene scene.
